just checking in

Been a while since my last post. I am entering my 41st year in the powersports industry. Come a long way from the first days in my first shop. Visitors need to know I have a tutorial website and also a business restoring 30-40 year old motorcycle carburetors. Check out the links below.

fast orange

Bought a new gallon this week and it got me to thinking. I use a lot of this stuff and you have to understand what this means to a career motorcycle tech who started out in the early 1970s. The name Permatex (the maker of Fast Orange) is frought with bad memories, and I would hazard to say most techs of my era shudder at hearing the name. It is because many Japanese motorcycles of the 70s were abused with Permatex gasket cement, a substance I think was originally developed for car water pumps, which can be a challenge to seal on old cast iron V8 engines. But seeing that stuff of aluminum castings such as clutch covers, and worse, laboring at getting it off, soured me for the brand. So it is a little ironic that I use Fast Orange as much as I do today.
